Penguin Plunge! 01/27/2008
One of the most anticipated events of the year has to be the Penguin Plunge. This is an event that helps to raise funds in support of the Special Olympics. This organization has been a pivotal part of my issue of concern, disability awareness, as well as a major part of my life since I was fifteen. My third year jumping was by far the best, and it is simply due to the people I took the plunge with, and those that were there to support us! As a team, "the Queens Rule" raised over $1300.00 which is more than we have ever collected. Yet again, we have another record that has to be broken! :) The day was fun, cold to say the least. Our favorite spot was right by the fireplaces that were on demo. When the time came to change into our swimsuits, we did it quickly, only to wait in anticipation in the freezing outdoors for our turn to take the jump. Our luck had it that we were the second to last team to plunge. When the time came, we were so cold from standing outside for so long that it was almost warmer in the water. On top of being dared into going completely under, my adrenaline and the fact that the water hit me like a brick wall, I was "Freezin for a Reason" for sure. Thanks for all of those who supported us, and thanks to those who braved the weather with us. It was awesome.
